Dollar Tree Opens in Avon
Dollar Tree has moved into the space in Hatteras Island
Plaza formerly occupied by Ace Hardware. I called to get the scoop.
The number was too new for the phone book that was thrown onto our driveway
earlier this week, but that didn't stop me. I called information and got
the number. I've been getting better at this reporter thing, too. I've
got my schtick down pretty good: "Hi, I'm Rick Kinnaird. I'm a reporter
for the Half Vaster, an electronic magazine about life on Hatteras..."
Right there, the nice woman who answered the phone cut me off. "I'm
not allowed to talk to reporters," she said. Did that stop me? Absolutely
not. I forged ever onward. "You can't tell me when you're open?"
I asked.
"Oh, I can tell you that," she said. "9 to 9 Monday through
Saturday and 9 to 8 on Sunday."
"Is everything in your store a dollar?"I asked. (You may think
this a silly question, but there are stores out there that claim to be
"dollar" stores but not everything in them costs a dollar.)
"Yes, everything is a dollar," the nice lady on the phone said.
"Unless, it's two for a dollar or three for a dollar."
So there you have it.
Dairy Queen Opens in Waves
There's a new Dairy Queen on Hatteras Island. It is located
in Waves, in front of Hatteras Island Surf & Sail and across the street
from the Top Dog Cafe. It will be open seasonally 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.
every day. We drove by on a Monday evening in July around 9 p.m. and the
place was packed.
