Fishing
And the word is ... stripers

Talked with TJ at the Rodanthe Fishing Pier and, although the
pier is closed for the season, he still keeps an eye on local fishing activity. (His season is from April 1 through January 2.) He said that stripers are slowly trickling in for beach fishermen with an occasional blue mixed in. Out on the boats, you can catch your limit of stripers easily. TJ is expecting that the number of stripers hitting the beaches will increase through mid-January and then run solidly for three weeks or so. We’ll check in next month for an update.

Hatteras Harbor Marina reports good catches of king mackerel, stripers and bluefin tuna so far in January despite some overly windy conditions.

Teach's Lair Marina reports record catches of Big Stripers in early January. They claim if you have "an itch to catch a BIG BASS, now is the time."

Joe Malat reports in his weekly OBX fishing report that jumbo bluefish and stripers near Oregon Inlet were big news during the first week of January. He said over New Year's weekend, the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center was packed with boats. Joe also reports that evenings were a good time to catch stripers at Cape Point near Buxton.
