Dare County Installs Web Cameras
Check out traffic and road conditions
before you head to Hatteras

Although the web cameras aren't new, we thought you might not know about them. Dare County has installed two webcams on Hatteras Island – one near the S-curves at Mirlo Beach and one on the water tower in Hatteras Village. The Mirlo Beach camera gives a peek at the spot on Highway 12 just before Rodanthe that frequently becomes covered with sand and/or water during windy, rainy conditions. The Hatteras Village camera shows the place where Hurricane Isabel cut Highway 12 in two near Frisco in 2003.

The purpose of the webcams is to assist emergency management personnel during bad weather conditions, but the streaming video is also available to the public via the Internet.

Take a look whenever you need that Hatteras state of mind or before you head to the island for your vacation.
